6-Week Update on Ricie’s Surgery

Mom wanted to give you an idea of what she’s looking like after 6-weeks since her surgery date.

So... We did go to the ER last week. We got there at 6:00 P.M. on Wednesday, and finally made it back home at 5:00 A.M. on Thursday. We were exhausted! Mom had experienced horrible head pains, sometimes referred to as “ice pick migraines.” Mom said she felt like she was having labor pains in her head! She was getting no relief or moment’s peace, so we told her that she needed to get checked out. The ER doctor said that it was “tension headaches,” and she did receive some medicine in an IV to help knock out that intense pain she had those past days. Mom now has a migraine medicine to take at home, so please pray that this pain will stay away. We don’t want any more trouble popping up! She has been doing good, and we are thankful to The Lord!

And we thank you all for praying for Mom.

Thinking about “Masters Week”

“Masters Week” and Augusta, Georgia’s world famous golf tournament has been different due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, but we are so proud to see them still carry on with it!

Our band wanted to share with you what “Masters Week” would usually be like for us. We are missing the music and our friends this year, but we are prayerfully looking forward to more fun times together, Good Lord willing... And I believe He is!

Mom is home from the hospital!

Mom came home from the hospital on Friday afternoon... And I have been busy ever since, haha! I apologize for not getting the word out sooner. My one track mind has been focused on playing nurse. We are happy to have Mom home, and we are so grateful for all of you praying for us during this time. Please continue to pray for Mom over the next few months as she heals from this surgery. Thanks again for every prayer!

Prayer Request for Ricie (Mom)

Please hold my mom in your prayers over these next few months. She has “cervical spine compression,” and will have surgery on the morning of Wednesday, October 28th.

It all started with her “self diagnosis of a frozen shoulder,” and she just accepted that she had less function in her left arm. This past March, her leg started giving her problems, with pain from her hip down to her shins. So she went to the doctor, and instead of a reference to pain management, she was sent to a neurosurgeon. The first person to give Mom a thorough exam was an old coworker of hers, so that was a ray of sunshine. After that exam, Mom had an MRI, and that is when we found out that she has pretty significant compression in her cervical spine (C3-C7). The doctor said that if she didn’t have surgery for it, it could cause further loss of function, and eventually paralysis.

The surgery may last up to 6-hours. They will go through her neck to do an “anterior cervical discectomy with fusion and plates, C3-C7,” then flip her over to do a “posterior fusion and plates, C3-T1.”

The healing time after the surgery will be about 3-months, and she will be in a neck brace for the first 6-weeks. Please pray that all of this will go well for her, and that The Lord will anoint her medical team. Please pray that there will be no complications, and that there won’t be any problems as this surgery is happening very near her larynx/vocal cords. We want Mom to continue to be able to play her beautiful penny whistle and sing with us. We love her so much!

Charlotte is such a kind lady and a wonderful vocalist who has sung all over the world with Southern Gospel legends like The Nelons, Jeff & Sherri Easter, and the Gaither Gospel Homecoming Series. We were honored to have her sing at our music festival.
